Overview

Bathed by the Caspian Sea and rooted between Asia and Europe, the ‘young’ nation of Azerbaijan has long been home to many ancient cultures, peoples and empires. Baku, its capital, is the best example of this East meets West, old meets new civilisation, with its contrast of ancient fortressed city and fabulous modern architecture. The remarkably preserved UNESCO-listed Old City holds a number of medieval monuments within its cannon protected walls, while the new part of town boasts daring 21st-century buildings like the Heydar Aliyev Center and the iconic Flame Towers.

Venture inland to cities like Qabala, and you’ll find more of Azerbaijan’s rich heritage along with unique traditions, marvellous cuisine and entertainment attractions like the Qabaland theme park. And as you head deeper into the Caucasus Mountains you’ll be dazzled by vast natural beauty, as rocky peaks give way to green valleys and turquoise lakes.

Tour Plan

Arrive in the capital city of Azerbaijan, Baku, and check-in to your hotel. Evening at Leisure
After breakfast, driver will be at the hotel lobby to pick you up for your half day city tour of Baku. Begin from Icheri Sheher, or the Old Town, with its maze of narrow, cobblestone streets lined with small mosques nestled between terrace cafes and grand turn-of-the-century architecture. The Palace of Shirvanshahs is a royal palace from the 15th century which stands out to be the finest surviving example of Shirvan architecture is definitely a highlight. After lunch, visit the State Museum of Carpets and Applied Art. Housed in the former Lenin Museum, this impressive collection displays rare Azeri carpets from Azerbaijan, northern Iran and from villages of Georgia and Armenia. Spend the evening on your own trying out some authentic cuisine of the region. Return to hotel.
After breakfast at hotel and go on your tour of the Absheron Peninsula. Drive to the famous Ateshgah, located in Surakhany village. Then, visit Yanar Dag Mountain which is the most famous and popular tourist site of the “eternal flame” in Azerbaijan. It is rather a hill than a mountain, with natural gas burning on its slope from ancient times. There is no seepage of mud or liquid, which distinguishes it from the nearby mud volcanoes. Only a handful of fire mountains exist today in the world, and most are located in Azerbaijan. Return to Baku.
After breakfast, check-out from your hotel early and transfer to the airport. Return home with beautiful memories of your holiday.
